Belief: A State of Mind

Imagine the entire world consists of nothing more that this small room. Here, the four of you, are faced with a problem. In this room, you must now accommodate 30 more people. How would you do it?

I claim, all theories, all religions, every metaphysical story, directly or indirectly tries to answer this question.

The evidence from the ages, all theoretical bullshit aside, suggests that exploitation is the very essence of life. Hence the rule of the strong over the weak, of the Capitalist over the wretched poor, of the 4 of you over the 30.

4 over 30! How is that accomplished? Capital! F-22 Raptors don't grow on trees. See that parking lot full of cars. It's their slavery that brings one into existence.

Capital is coercion: those who have it will use it against that don't. Hence communist China switched to building Capital to avoid the inevitable rape...

All of history lives in these words: once upon a time, dominant males in a chimp group chased out the adolescent males. The latter discovered a garbage dump outside the jungle. Fed on this protein rich diet, they returned and soundly thrashed their vegetarian seniors.

Every group goes in search of energy. When we climbed down from trees, we enslaved sunshine in our crops. When we crossed the steppe, we enslaved animals. Why stop at animals? Land hungry Sparta added Humans to their slave collection. The quest does not end there, steam, coal, oil and nuclear power are the garbage dumps which have fed chimps that soundly thrashed their predecessors/ contemporaries.

Democracy died when fiat currencies came into existence, they made tax payers superfluous. A sovereign government can print its own money. Now all that matters is who can buy and pay for leaders.

It is looking up from the position of the vanquished, the defeated, that I now speak: weapons of the greatest strength are forged in the furnace of desperation.

The answer to this world's hunger is not in socialism, capitalism or any other idea. I claim it is in culture: what a people value the most. Beyond money, beyond capital, beyond energy is the realm of belief -- some built pyramids there, some Moai, some died in anonymity while hammering away at their art, but always, in the background was belief: a state of mind.

One way or the other, all men will figure out how to possess commodities, and one way or another, nearly all will be trapped in the cycle to possess or worse in wretched equilibrium.

It is not possession but greatness that matters.

It will take a lifetime for some men to discover this truth.

Why do men climb mountains? When everything in your life, even your food, has been subordinated to your goal, you are truly on your way to greatness.

Hithero the goal has been to eliminate suffering, starvation, and slavery, but these are the very things that give birth to: a state of mind, belief, that intangible force which has shaped everything great, rare and of any value.

It is not suffering that is wretched, but the the lack of "belief" in a soul.

The question communism and capitalism have failed to answer is not how to eliminate suffering, starvation, slavery, etc., but how to live meaningfully while suffering, starving and enslaved or in luxury...

Here I offer my solution: if you can go to your death defending your idea, you have found "belief", the meaning of your life.

Your life is different from a dog's only when it rises above mere survival, when you live and die for a "belief."
